Near perfect except for Microsoft...

Using as a laptop rather than a tablet, the display/graphics are superb, best I've seen. Speed is super, way ahead of prior laptops. Battery life too. The overall size is perfect, exactly what I was looking for. Keyboard has great feel, backlighting too, even different levels.

Overall, I think this is as near perfect a PC as I've had among dozens over the years, starting with DOS/Windows 3... The only improvement I could see is in the area of the "hinge," where I wish the back and keyboard would position one another rather than the "tablet" portion leaning on a pull-out tab. Minor.

However, the experience created by Microsoft's "security" concerns is overwhelmingly negative. The online "Hello" sign in requirement was tedious, frustrating and finally infuriating. I spent hours online trying to defeat/turn off each of at least 3 "features" between me and successful boot of the machine. Successive applications of the same techniques/procedures as outlined by both Microsoft and others met with varied results, sometimes successful after as many as 10 identical attempts. This is a serious obstacle between the user and a very nice laptop computer.

I'm using the computer both for work and for performance on stage. It does everything I need it to do in every setting flawlessly. The screen is spectacular. This replaces both my work laptop and my tablet.

Just Buy It

I've held off a long while before submitting a review. The title of my review is the best summary I can offer. If you are in the market for a detachable 2-in-1 style notebook/tablet.... buy the Robo & Kala laptop. I've had my R&K for 9 months now and highly recommend it to anyone looking for a productivity device in this class.

I've worked with many similar devices, including the Microsoft offerings. For the money, the R&B is a better product. Even at the same money, it would be the best device in this category of products.

My only initial complaint was using the stylus to take hand written notes. Taking notes is a primary function of any tablet I buy. The R&B wasn't great for that, at least when compared to my Samsung Tab S7 or even the Kindle Scribe. That said... it turns out the problems have nothing to do with R&B and everything to do with the Microsoft standard for using an active stylus to do the job. The problem isn't an R&K problem. It's a Microsoft problem. Please don't understand. The stylus does work and it will probably serve your needs. The experience just isn't as good what you will find on devices running other operating systems (i.e. Android).

All that said..... the R&K laptop is probably the finest tech you'll find in this class anywhere. The price is incredible for a 16/512 configuration. The screen is absolutely beautiful. The keyboard is one of the best I've ever used on devices of this size. The build quality, size and weight are second to none! Performance is very good for productivity apps and the battery life is much better than I expected.
Everything works, every time. In the months I've used this device, I've identified zero problems.

In short.... if you are looking for a detachable 2-in-1 running Microsoft Windows, the R&K is the one to buy.
